Prague

Prague, a UNESCO world heritage site was amazing. Mom was right, it is cold here. When we first started boarding the plane our airline boarded the back first. In all the times that I have gotten on and off planes this was the first time that the back was actually boarded first. I was amazed, in my head I was going on and on about how efficient boarding the back is and how every single airline should follow suit. First class be damned! The plane ride over I was filled with so much anticipation but I shortly fell asleep. When I woke up I had to wipe off so much drool from my face even I was shocked.

We had our layover in Portugal for an hour, and mom asked me if I wanted a second jacket. Like a fool I declined. So we sat and we were called to board (again back to front!). I shocked myself again by falling asleep and missing takeoff. I had planned to read and listen to my music the whole time but I was interrupted by the fattest bloody nose ever. I was so embarrassed but I got over it quickly because I started to notice a thick layer of frost that had built up on my window. Our plane got lower and lower but the frost stayed there, almost getting thicker. We landed and I glanced out the window one last time, the frost was still there. Shoot. It was then that I began to regret not taking the extra jacket. After buying our bus tickets we both put on another jacket. I originally objected to bringing a third one but you know what I’m glad mom brought it. We got onto our bus bundled up and warm. We got off our bus, I took a deep breath in the frigid air and, mmmm cigarette smoke. I couldn’t stop and play in the snow because mom was dragging me away to catch our train. The stops went by one by one, I didn’t know how to pronounce anything. We got off at our stop, we fell asleep instantly tired by the days travels.

That night we only got 3 hours of sleep. We went to sleep at 9pm only to wake up at 12 bright eyed and bushy tailed. We ended up sitting around making plans for the day. We decided we would go to the Charles Bridge for sunrise. Armed with a map we set out for the bridge. In prague there are no straight street, winding cobblestone streets fill the space instead. After getting lost a couple of times we made it to the bridge.Walking through prague seems so much like walking through the town of a Disney movie. The buildings have the most stunning architecture combined with the full array of colors, it truly is a sight to behold. Many are originals from the empire. We arrived at the bridge and there were a few people milling around but it was quiet, peaceful. It was cold out, the kind that grips at you through your jacket, but it was well worth it to see the Charles Bridge with no people. Statues of various statues of saints lined the sides, giving the illusion that one is walking through a tunnel. I turned around to see the glow of the sun peaking over the skyline and saints. With smoke puffing out of the chimneys in the city beyond it truly was a sight to behold. Some statues had shining gold ornaments while others were left bare. Mom got out her camera and began taking pictures. We walked around for another hour before we began our trek back. On our way back mom saw the famed Astronomical Clock. We stood there for another 10 minutes in the freezing cold as she took picture after picture. Finally we made it back to our hotel and ate a much deserved breakfast. Later in the day we then went on a walking tour describing the history of Prague. After the tour we or should I say mom went on the hunt for some czech food. After many exclamations of “ooh I’ve heard of that place” we finally found a restaurant that mom found satisfactory.

It was so cold the waterwheel and troll froze.
